Looking for price on Mint 1936 S/42

Can anyone help in giving me an approximate value on this gun. It does not come with a magazine :crying: Also, the grips have not been removed to determine if they are matching or not. A friend of mine has this and may be looking to sell. Any help would be appreciated.

The serial # is 32m.

Book value for dated S/42 in excellent condition is $1.6k (Standard Catalog of Firearms, by Dan Shideler, 2009 Ed)

The definition excellent is strict: 98% in blue, grip, and bore. Must be 100% original factory condition without refinishing, repair, alterations or additions of any kind. Sight must be factory as well.

A little bit tough. If I had an excellent one, it would be a little bit hard for me to let it go at the book value though, unless I am desperate.

So called "book values"...whatever book, are meaningless.

The author claimed his book value being real transaction price in the past. One trap is condition. It's mission impossible to id everything. And he's not offering anything for sale at his price, talk is cheap.

I trimmed all comments out (no offense to anyone) and added larger pictures for David.

Looks like a very nice gun with exceptional remaining straw coloring. Probably pretty good property for future appreciation. Other than some flat spots on the grips anyone see any zits that I'm missing? I'd angle for getting it for $1500'ish.

And thanks for pumping up the photos, Ed.

Hi David, David Jay is right, near mint condition apart from the damaged grips (usually unnumbered in 1936). I would figure it a little lower, however, because of the missing magazine, about $1,300.00. Regards, Norm

Hmm.... sounds like Dan S. was not far away from market.

Well off from what the owner was looking for about a year ago. Thanks to all for your input and thanks to Ed for adjusting the pics.

Don't think it would hurt to educate Alvin and others on the facts of life concerning so called "Value books."

This one has many nice samples survived. That's one reason I am not in hurry to get an instance yet although I like it. Luger commonly trades under book value these days. Waiting.
