Dok's Jewel Luger

I have had some inquiries since Dok put his Luger on the main page about the work, finish and strawing on his gun. This Luger was salt blued with the normal parts strawed but not a matt straw like the originals, but a high polish dark gold color, with the extractor added too. Gold color fill embelishments adorn the various deep stampings. A mirror polish crown is added and a pair of blond colored walnut grips (by Hugh CLARK) with GT magazine bottoms in a couple of salt blued magazines to match the gun were also added. A nice ensemble but not original in its finish and strawing. A very pretty Luger. The dark black salt bluing really contrasts well with the gold strawing. This is what I call a "Total Doll Job". I have done about a half a dozen of these, ~Thor~

That is a fine looking Lugar. I just got one from my family as a holiday gift. I have one question. Is the 1918 marking the manufacture date or the serial number? I have 1915 marked in the same location. I suspect it is the manufature date. but not sure. I have a couple of books on order that I'am also hoping will give me info.

The number over the chamber is the manufacturing date

in most cases. The exception being what is commonly referred to as a double-date where 1920 is one of the numbers but this is a property marking and not a date...

Congrats on your Christmas gift and welcome to the forum...
