@ the range

I went to the NRA range today and bought a (white) box of Winchester (black lettering) 9mm NATO (124 grain FMJ)
The recoil was harder and every 1-2 rounds the Luger jammed. I tried several rounds and then gave up.
Then I switched back to my regular Winchester White Box ammo with 115 grain bullets and the gun shot smooth and flawless like always.
I shot Magtech, Remington UMS, American Eagle and never experienced this before. (They all had 115grain bullets).
I didn't know that a 124 grain bullet makes such a big difference.

Is a 124 grain bullet just too heavy for a Luger?

Hi:

No, your problem is not with the weight of the bullet, but rather the charge.

Current NATO Specifications: 121 grain bullet at 1,260 fps.

The NATO load is some 17% hotter than the DWM WWI and later German Army loads.

Stick with the lighter loads, or you might easily damage your fine Luger.

My luger is finicky about charge load too. I found that reduced loads (4.0gn about 5% less than the recommended dose of TiteGroup behind a 115gn FMJ) worked reliably.

Sieger, you are absolutly right. I'm really scared to hurt my baby, of course I'll stick with Winchester White Box or Remington UMC 115 gr. ammo.
Especially the Remington UMC ammo is very soft (and 1-2 mm shorter than other 9mm Luger ammo). I had the best results with regular Winchester White Box ammo. I'll give the box with the 9mm NATO rounds to my buddy. I've just shot a few rounds of the 9mm NATO ammo with my Luger.

Hi Again:

Over all length also matters quite a bit in that greatly slanted Luger magazine.

Best, with round nosed bullets is 1.169 to 1.173 inches if you are going to be firing a full magazine of 8 rounds.
