BKIW / DWM vintage .30 luger box

Got this box in last week. It was a bit of a restoration project as it literally fell apart.

These boxes don't show up that often so I was quite happy finding one, even in the acquired state. This is the result after some restoration and conservation work.

The name on the sides (Berlin Karlsruher Industriewerke AG, vormals Deutsche Waffen- und Munitionsfabriken) help to date the box between June, 1933 and June 1936. A 'GERMANY' rubber stamp marking at the bottom shows that it was most likely an export box intended for the US.

History in your hand!!! Remarkable.

What activities did DWM carry out in Karlsruhe? I have relatives nearby and have visited the area a few times...

Gerben, A remarkable box! Rare to be sure. These should be preserved as best you can.

@Marc,

DWM's Karlsruhe branch was specialized in the production of ammunition and ammunition and packaging production machines. During the imperial years they produced large calibre shells with the 'Patronenfabrik Karlsruhe' headstamp, as well as small arms ammunition.

A large part of their production facility is still standing today, but it is in use as a museum and cultural centre.

Enough history to see around Karlsruhe as well: RWS/GeCo/Dynamit Nobel had their small arms ammunition production plant near Durlach. All that remains of that plant is the 'Schrott-turm' a tower once used to cast lead pellets for shotshells.

Ed, computer is acting up may be hard to get a hold of, but I have two bottom only boxes, one full, one 3/4 full.....offers??

Interesting,

The bottom should have rubber stamp markings, usually a 3-digit number with some letter codes. Do you want to check whether your bottom-only boxes have legible markings (and tell what they are)?

We are trying to figure out the manufacture / dating codes of DWM/BKIW in the 1920s and 30s.
