Newbie with a 1914 Erfurt
 

My late step-father captured a 1914 Erfurt in WW2. I have the captured enemy equipment certificate, and a narrative on how he found the gun. I'm trying to get a value on it. It has matching numbers except clips, holster, high % of strawing, 4" barrell. Hasn't been fired since capture. Is there anyone in Eastern North Carolina who can help me put a value on this gun?

David, with the exception of fakes, there are two types of 1914 non artillery Erfurts out there. Keep in mind that with the exception of the 1910 dated Erfurt (only 2 known) that only 7000 approx. were made with the 4 inch barrel (Still's Imperial Lugers). One type is the genuine type, with several important characteristics, including a serial number with no suffix, or an "a" suffix, an unrelieved trigger sear bar, proofs on the grip screws and last but not least, 2 acceptance marks on the wooden magazine botton. The other type of Erfurt 1914, does not possess these features, that is to say, the sear bar is relieved, almost any suffix is seen and only one acceptance mark is on the magazine bottom. It is believed by many, that these latter variants were made up, possibly after WW1 from existant parts. Of course the former "real" 1914 is felt to command a higher price. What that price is would be determined by the gun's condition. Thus is is imperative that pictures be posted to get any meaningful assessment.

Fred, your 1914 Erfurt #7342 is the real "McCoy". Thanks for the album lead. I hope David gets a chance to see it and to respond to our requests for photos.

Yeah, DocB. I got lucky my first time out. it came with matching mag, and a 1915 holster w/ extra period mag.

I say lucky, but it was all due to studying/reading on this Forum. Lots to learn here from great people willing to share.
