.30 Luger bullets

Huntingtons has Hornady .30 Luger 93 gr FMJ for $14 per 100. This is a special run so I don't know how long they will last.

Hi Doug....!

Do you know the overall diameter of these bullets?

TIA!

Re: Bullet diameter

Old Western Scrounger lists BOTH bullets for $10.14 per hundred. I have loaded the 93 gr bullet and have good luck with as long as the expander plug is for a .308 and not a .310 bullet. ~Thot

Re: Bullet diameter

Weren"t .308 bullets for the .30 Mauser and .30 Luger bullets larger? I could be wrong, but don"t think so.

Re: 30 Luger Accuracy-308" Bullets

Lonnie, you are sure right about the 30 Luger, most measure .309-.310" but getting those diameter bullets are damn near impossible unless you cast and size them or take the .311" or .312" jacketed bullets and size them down to .3095+-" one thousands at a time (Hugh Clark's trick) The accuracy of a .308" diameter bullet in the 30 Luger barrel CAN be phenomenal, so I dont bother with the sizing stuff. See attached picture of the 0.8" group I fired with the .308" Hornady bullets! I doubt I could have done any better with a .310" bullet. ~Thor~

Thor; another impressive group! Have you tried bigger bullets in this gun?

Re: 30 Luger Accuracy-308" Bullets

Nope, it belongs to Bill Stanley, he lives in your neck of the woods, and he has it back now! He hand loads so I imagine he would load what I used. Like I said, why try to mess with perfection, when you gotta size the bullets. I guess there are places you can buy LEAD CAST bullets sized to the diamter you want but I prefer jacketed ones. ~Thor~
