Strange Luger
5 Attachment(s)
Got my first Luger today, and have now read a lot of information on this webside. Its a new world!
During my former carrier as an officer in the Norwegian army, I have used the Luger on duty, but never known its detaliled history concerning the different models etc. When I now got the offer to purchase one (from a friend of the family, that did not want to keep it after her husband died. It was stolen for many years, but was recently returned by the police), its exiting to try to find out the detalis. As far as I can see this is a "shooter". At first I thougt that it have the same numbers on the parts, but it looks that some of the numbers has been stamped after if was first made and the original numbers has been removed. The barrel is also different from all the barrelels that I have seen on any pictures (it has a form as a nut on the chamber side, and the sight is also different from the "normal" Luger. There is a crown marked on top, but no serialnumbers). Most marked parts looks like the period around 1916, but it also has a"byf" part. The mag must be very modern sinve it has "made in Denmark" stamped on the bottom. I hope somone can tell me more about this Luger. Hopefully the changes was done no later than wwII.. (pictures are attached) |
Welcome to the madness, as far as I remember reading you are the first poster who has used a luger in a official capacity so congrats on that. I don’t know what that luger is but I’m looking forward to finding out.c

Thank you very much. Look forward to hear from you. Forgot to say it's marked 1916 on top

Barrel looks to be a Lahti barrel. Don't know if Finland or Sweden manufacture. However, Sweden sold Lahti's to Denmark for their Police department and that might be where it came from. Denmark Lahti's have a "D" before the serial number denoting Denmark.
That's my SWAG. |
It looks like yuor right. After searching for Lahti barrels, I found a picture of an identical barrel on a lahti. It makes sense that it was used by the Danish police since the mag is marked "Made in Denmark". The other modifications (new numbers on some parts) also suggest that it has been used by an organization in stead of "private" modificatons.
I think the conclusion is that it's a 1916 Erfurt modified by the danish police post wwII I had hoped that the changes was made during its military period, but.. (I didn't pay very much, and its perfect to use at the range) Anyway, the madness had begun. Now I know more what to look for next time |
If the mag was made in Denmark, for Danish military/police service, why does it say "MADE IN DENMARK" in English? Were these mags also exported? I have never seen one here in the US.
|
After checking on "search" it seems that Denmark had commercial production of mags after wwII. These were probobly also exported. One hit named the year 1953. They were often marked "made in Denmark"
|
I have several Danish made made mags in stock (available @$50 each) some marked and some unmarked. All seem to have the same indent (casting flaw) in the middle of the aluminum bottom. TH
