Germany still uses Kar 98k as parade gun
 

Saw a few 2008 pictures on the information super highway. The new uniform cannot compare with old ones, but the gun is still Kar 98k.

Looks like this C&R will stay. How come no swords....

US Marine ceremonial unit at 8th & I use the M1 Garand...Many parade units still use M1 Garand, or even Springfield 03A3...

Why??? I have absolutely no idea... :confused:

Well they look more proper/classy than the black plastic poodle popper. Interestingly, most parade Garands have about one half inch cut off the butt. Better balance?

but it is true.
A few years ago there was a "scandal" in Germany because of these K98k.
Some of them had still WW2 proof markings. After an idiot of the Wachbataillon told this to somebody of the press, you could read in German headlines that NAZI SYMBOLS are still used in the German Army.
After this big "scandal" they removed all rifles with old proof markings from the current service in the Wachbataillon. Now the Bundeswehr is political correct....

Have you ever tried a Queen Anne's Salute with an M16?

I don't like berets either...
But the 98K still rules (together with its old counterparts, M1903 Springfield and M1 Garands).
Shame that don't use them with the bayo's on.

Yep I think a 98K just looks better than this one :rolleyes: . At least you can rest it on your shoulder, just looks better at a parade

Mauser Karabiner 98 kurz is still one of the best rifles, but here we have situation, when these rifles are use for parade, so in my opinion they can use black powder matchlock rifles as good as Kar98k, because it's only parade.

Tha last three photos are from Chile. I lived there over three years. They still goose step when raising and lowering the flag outside the Moneda Palace every day.

My Wife's father and uncle were both Chilean Coronels. I have several uniforms and acoutriments, which are very similar to the German WW2 models. The military academy still parades with authentic WW1 Pickelhaubs!! I have one of these spiked helmets, purchased by Chile from Germany prior to WW1. They are in excellent shape, having been cared for constantly since new. The Chilean crest plate can be removed from the front and a WW1 German plate pops right into the same holes. I also have the rarer "Penacho" or extention, which screws to the spike's base after removing the spike. This extension then has the plumes, which attach to the top. You will see many WW1 photos of German and Austrian officials wearing these plumed extentions on their Pickelhaubs.

I was assigned with the 3rd US Infantry, "The Old Guard", in Washington, DC doing ceremonies for military and civilian organizations. I was a Color Team Sgt.
The major problem with any new weapon is the magazine well. It doesn't sit in the shoulder socket correctly so it looks shoddy when performing the manual-at-arms. The M16 is a short weapon. To be in the Old Guard, you must be over 6'3" and with the M16 at order-arms, the stretch was excessive. The Company used the M14 and as Color Team Sgt. during presentations, my guards used the 75cal. British Brown Bess. Yes, I wore the colonial uniform for my 2 year assignment.
