DWM MFG Date
 

I am new in the Luger word.
My question is how do you tell the mfg date on a DWM Luger?

If there is no chamber date, AND a crown N on the left side of the receiver we can get close. But we need the whole serial number including any letter suffixes. Look under technical info on the left screen, then markings. Other items that would be nice are the calibre, barrel length, and PICTURES.

30 cal 3 inch barrel and yes it does have a N on the left side

Looks like an exc example of a post WW1 commerical made from 1919-1921, as a continuation of the commerical range started by DWM with the M1900, prior to switching to the Alpha-numeric military style serialization in 1921. Some of this model, were marked in English ("loaded" on extractor & "Safe" above the safety lever) for the American market. and will usually have "Germany" marked on frame or receiver. If Safe & Loaded marked, this will add to it's value. TH

From Jan Still's book, "Weimar and Early Nazi Lugers".

"After WWI, perhaps as early as 1919 the commercial serial range was continued by DWM. It started at about 75000...... In 1921 at about serial no. 92000 the five digit method was converted to the letter suffix.

I just saw this album pic in today's Random Album Pictures and first thought that it must be an altered/added serial...The 5-digit serial is not centered and the 8 looks added afterward... :confused:

This is common??? :eek:

Can't tell if it has a stock lug, and if commercial it should have a horizontal Crown/N on the left side of the receiver. Serial number may or may not have been altered...things got a little sloppy in the '20s. Neat gun but need more info/photos before final assessment.
