Upper Receiver alone can fire!

Hello everyone,

I was watching this video on youtube

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5WD8R3S9IDI&fmt=18

I was wondering if this type of scenario can happen with the gun cocked and fully assembled?

Yes, when you pull the trigger :D

The side plate normally protects the sear from being depressed by accident. It starts to get dangerous after the side plate is removed.

This is the reason why the sear safety was developed.

This has been known for many years.

Anything is possible.

Although the sideplate is designed to cover and protect the sear bar, any object small enough or sharp enough to come in contact with, and depress the sear bar will release the firing pin. Unlikely? Yes. Impossible? No.

This is one of my arguments against carrying a Luger for self protection.

Yes this is very true. I know someone who had an accidental discharge...having the gun cocked wasn't a bright idea :(

I did this once and on purpose!! I started out with a load just strong enough to get the bullet out the barrel, then I used a towel wrap over the cannon that was in my shooting hand and yep, it fired, then increased the load until I got to a full load, then I stopped and decided I did not want to do it again. I read it once in a spy book and had to try it, I DONT RECOMMEND IT! Read about it here!

To make matters worse, a procedure that enabled the German police to demonstrate this behaviour to cadets was described in Schmitt's 'Waffentechnisches Unterrichtsbuch für den Polizeibeamten' (police weapons training manual).

In the book he describes a fixture, consisting of a wooden board, a wooden end piece and four nails that help to keep the upper part in place.

Very nice video. Thanks to ALL the members who wrote and filmed the upper firing. I knew it could be done but, to watch it on video is surprising. Thanks again gentlemen.

Yes thank you all like I said someone I know went to jail for an accidental discharge so I take this topic VERY seriously.

Anybody whoever handled or diassembled a Luger has to be aware this is a simple mechanical aspect.

Amazing anybody actually tested it with a live round.

A "Hold my beer and watch this!" moment.

I have a BYF 41 that shows little use other than holster wear.

There is enough "slop" in the safety bar slot that the pistol will fire with the safety engaged.
Must have been a Friday afternoon piece that slipped by the inpectors.

Do you have a picture of it sir?

Well, there is one thing I can't understand

Why would somebody clean a loaded weapon ???
It makes absolutely no sence to me.
Of course, it is an interesting aspect, that a Luger can fire just with the upper parts, but that anybody would clean a loaded gun is so unlikely like an oil change while the engine is running.

Very true but I guess some people don't use their heads or just simply ignore the fact to double and triple check a FIREARM which is DEADLY
