New member looking to buy

Hey guys! I thought I'd introduce myself. Navy Reservist here recently returned from a deployment to the middle east. Yes, the Navy is serving ON THE GROUND along with the other branches! I'm now looking to get a Luger. I once owned a German officers pistol, 25 cal, I believe. The serial # was 5! Was never fired, had the original box of bullets the U.S. soldier took from the officers pocket after he shot him. The guy was probably issued it and got killed before he had a chance to fire it! It was like brand new with the original holster. God! I miss that gun! I'm looking to buy a Luger just to shoot and have some fun with it! I received an Expert Pistol Shot medal and Expert Rifle Shot medal from the Navy last year while deployed which I'm proud of, so I know how to shoot. Been shooting since a teenager. I saw the home page saying a shooter Luger can be had for $350.00. That's funny cause I've been looking for a little while now and haven't seen anything under $600.00 or so. Where are all these $350.00 shooter grade Lugers hiding at? Anyone here wanna' sell me one? Thanks for your help. It's great to be back home in the good ole' USA!

Hi Rob,
Welcome home and thanks for your service. You wont find a 350.00 Luger in CT., that is for sure. Bobs Gun Exchange in Darien CT has a few nice shooters in the 800.00 range. If you want to find one cheaper you will need your Curio and Relics collectors license. Then you can shop all over the country without having to transfer through a dealer.I am in Fairfield County, where are you?
Cheers,
Jason
Oh PS.....every WWII vet shot and killed an officer to get that vet bring back.
We have a saying "buy the gun not the story" ;)

Rob, Welcome home. Unless you're a medic with the Marine, Sailor's should have ships. I do have a couple of 7.65mm luger shooters left on my listing in the For Sale section. TH, CDR. USNR-Ret.

Hi Jason. I hear ya'! I bought the pistol from my brother in law who purchased it from an old woman in Middlebury CT. Her deceased husband brought it back. (well...actually deceased husband's are incapable of bringing back weapons, or anything for that matter. He was ALIVE when he brought it back & died later) (I'm being a wise guy...sorry) .She looked like an honest old woman who wouldn't make the story up, but......maybe her husband told her that tale when he got back home.

I live in Naugatuck. It would be nice to get one of those licenses to not have to go thru a FFL dealer. Are they hard to get?

For the other gentlemen, I'm not a Hospital Corpman and the Navy ships are fully manned so when we get activated in the reserves now we don't go on ships which is fine with me. I spent 3 years on an aircraft carrier and have been on many small ships as well. I've had my share of sea duty. Three of my Navy Reserve friends have recently been activated. After training one is headed to Afghanistan, the other (a girl) is going to Kuwait, and the other one doesn't know where he's going yet.

Hi Rob,
C+R is easy to get.Contact ATF, they will send you the forms. The Cheif Law Enforcement officer of your town reveiws the application, submit and in 2-3 weeks you will have a FFL :D

rob00000 01-08-2010 11:00 PM

Wow! That's exactly what I'll do! Jason, what weapons will I be able to purchase with this? Only, old collector weapons, or any modern pistol or rifle?

Unless CT law is different, only a "copy" of the application must be sent to the CLO in the area.

A C&R is anything over 50 yrs old, with a few exceptions.

Ed

PS: where does it say $350 lugers, I will try and change that....

Thanks for the info Ed! Under "History of the Luger' It reads:

Specimens of rare types can command prices more appropriate to a new automobile than a firearm, while a basic, operational, if not particularly attractive, example can be had for US$350

I'll see if I can change that, that was written probably 8 years ago....

Rob,
Ed is correct, the CLEO does not have to approve the application, but has the right to contact the ATF if he has an issue with it.Sorry for not being clear. The application comes with instructions. I hand delivered my"copy" to headquaters just to make sure there were no issues.
Good Hunting,
Jason

Rob,

From one new member to another welcome home. I spent 12 months over there in 07-08. The Navy ran the hospital in Kuwait and we had Air Force truck drivers not to mention a multitude of coalition forces. What a combination.
