John,

You know full well that in a matter of a few years, you WILL be kicking yourself right square in the buttox for not buying this "find". This, for one who needs it is something that comes along just once in a lifetime! Make yourself buy it for you for Christmas. Think of all the crap that you have gotten over the years for Christmas that more than totals that $1000.00 amount. Most now faded, broken or outgrown..etc! If I had an Arty...I would do whatever it took to claim that "find"

Just my thoughts to another Luger friend...Merry Merry!

I'll keep an eye on it Milt, but I am sure this one will close

a lot closer to $2000 or better...

I just can't stretch that far with all that is currently going on in my family. I will have to settle for the photo for my collection... sigh!

More than that :|

John,

it might go for more because it also has dust covers.

The only thing missing is the leather holster.

John....the longer of the two pieces is the dust cover the shorter piece is the machine gun adaptor...this "rig" will surley fetch 1800 plus........Leo

Leo,

$1300 with five days to go! This thing will fly past $1800. Who is this masked man "P08"? He is always putting his nose in where I belong. My brother has the full rig (with holster) and he won't sell it to me for anything. I told him that I put him in my will but that didn't help.

The owner claims matching numbers, but how is that possible?

Since I read somewhere that there was only one loader for every 6 or so magazines?

I'll bet this combo tops $2250 at auction... certainly no cooler heads will prevail...

Maybe he just means both halves of the magazine, although I can't ever recall seeing one that was mismatched.

Re: The owner claims matching numbers, but how is that possible?

There is a nice picture in THE LUGER BOOK by Walter pg 272. Also see Jan Stills, Imperial Lugers, Pages 110 and 115-6. The best pictures, though, are in Kenyons, Lugers At Random, pages 398 and 399. My experience with these things is that the snail drum dust cover is often missing and the MP.18 adapter is impossible to find. The snail drum is often confused with a Japanese snail drum possibly for the Nambu. They look very simular and I don't think that they are interchangable with the Luger. A nice snail drum alone will go in the area of $900 to $1200 depending on condition. The loader alone will go in the area of $750 to $850. I don't have an idea about the adapter or the dust cover separately. Owners may have discarded them over the years not knowing what they were. The leather holsters are also impossible to find as are the canvas carriers.

From the picture on AA and no e-mails I would say that this set looks in nice condition and cool heads will NOT prevail. I just hope that the buyer is not from a state like Kalifornia where these drums are definately illegal.

My guess is $2785 (EOM)

Hi Norm......Po8 has put his nose into some of my bussiness also....in refrence to some of the other ques. I have seen missmatched numbered drums, they are numbered front and back, the loaders are not serial numbered they are marked B/N dust covers bring 125 and the mach. gun adap. will bring 100 easily.I am watching this closely as I have three of them........just think I could sell them and purchase a Iron Cross Luger as advertised

John Sabato 12-20-2001 05:56 PM

Very FUNNY Leo! :D

If you have 3 of them, you should be able to afford TWO Iron Cross Lugers!

Re: The owner claims matching numbers, but how is that possible?

On all my snail drum mags, the only numbers are on the front and back..and matching. The dust covers have no serial numbers on them. The drum loader is proofed and no number.

Trommel Magazines

If we are to believe that the serial numbers we see on the trommel magazines are a true representation of the actual number produced, where did they all go? According to known serial numbers on the magazines, there should be almost 4 magazines to every LP08. While the magazines are not rare, they are scarce and are not seen with anything like the frequency of the LP08's. While all were not used with the LP08, this should have nothing to do with their scarcity.

Re: Trommel Magazines

Good point Johnny......my type one one is 4 didget and both the type 2s are 6 didget.

Re: The owner claims matching numbers, but how is that possible?

Big Norm et al, I do have a couple of original MP18 MG adapters available for the snail drum @$75 each. CMR in our resouces section offer an excellent copy of the fabric snail drum carrier for around $100. Tom h
