Need some honest help

I have a DWM 7.65 MM Luger, with a 3 3/4" barrel, serial # 4852 with Germany underneath. It is in very good condition, with two clips (one I believe to be original). What would a gun like this be worth?

Thank you,

We really need pictures to tell anything. See the albums section, or other posts for examples of what we need to see. Right now it sounds like you have a early 1920s commercial. On the front of the frame is there a letter under the ser. no? See here, technical sections, markings for examples.

Has this been re-blued? Edges are looking a bit rounded from the photos.
Regardless, given the market on .30 commercials, approx. value at this time is $1000, give or take a hundred.
Pretty Luger.

This gun has definitely been buffed and reblued, and under the circumstances you should consider yourself fortunate if someone will give you $500 for it.

Thanks, but I can tell when a gun has be re-blued. The guy I bought from found it in his late Fathers' stuff. He didn't know squat about it and wouldn't have had the wherewithal to have it redone.

Perhaps you can, but Dwight has a finer eye for guns than most people I know.

Several people gave you good answers.

Reblued, maybe $500

Non reblued then maybe $900-$1000

It could be, but if no date on the top, then it was redone by someone. In addition, the germany on the front is an obvious export markign to the USA, and the "o" suffix WAS used in the 1920's.

What are the proofs? I see no WW1 proofs on the right and can't see a crown N on the left.

From these photo's it does look reblued to me too...

Have to agree with Dwight and Ed. Finish is too shiney and the edges have lost their sharpness due to the pre-blue buffing.

FNorm 12-30-2009 07:53 PM

The 'o' series would have been made the last half of 1925, first part of 1926.

$150 in 1985 converting to today's dollar is

$300.14 using the Consumer Price Index
$264.27 using the GDP deflator
$325.67 using the value of consumer bundle
$302.49 using the unskilled wage
$402.27 using the nominal GDP per capita
$513.62 using the relative share of GDP

Even more interesting, Stoeger priced NIB 7,65 DWM Luger at $50 in 1928. Converting to today's dollar is

$628.44 using the Consumer Price Index
$513.24 using the GDP deflator
$1,275.64 using the value of consumer bundle
$2,036.90 using the unskilled wage
$2,934.72 using the nominal GDP per capita
$7,416.13 using the relative share of GDP

David,
I am flattered that you would want my opinion. But I am afraid it is the same as the other gentlemen, the gun has been buffed and re-blued.

Wish the pictures were still up.
