New Luger

I tried over the weekend to upload some photos. Naturally my efforts bombed. After reading Postino's post, I tried again. Hopefully these will get thru. This is one of the Lugers I adopted about 6 or 7 months ago. On my original post I got the story out but only 1 photo of the toggle. If this works I'lll send the rest. Please look over the photos and tell me what I have.

Thanks
Newluger

PS: Thanks Postino

Newluger,

You have 1921 DWM serial number 5657a. It was manufactured by DWM in 1921 and issued to the Schutzpolizei (urban police) of the Prussian administrative district of Frankfurt am Oder as indicated by the grip strap marking S.F.57. It appears that portions of an earlier marking have been ground off. The gun originally may have been issued to one of the three early Schupo commands in this district - Frankfurt, Cottbus or Landsburg. By 1928 there was only one command located at Cottbus. The surviving marking is from this command. (HWIS, p. 151)

This is a very rare police marking. There were few of these to begin with and, since this region was captured by the Russians at the end of WWII, even fewer have been reported. Congratulations.

Your mag is an early WW1 Erfurt and the wood grips appear to be replacements, judging by the fit. TH

Don M and Lugerdoc.

Thank you for the info on this one. It took me a while to figure out how to post photos, but I finally managed. The browse column had me confused until it dawned on me that only one photo per browse. I appreciate the info.

Thanks Tom.

I purchased two Lugers that day. The other one was the Erfurt. The mag must go with that one.
