It's on a Buck Knife Forum, where all us Buck knife nuts show off our knives...with mostly pretty bad pics...

I plan on building one of these in the next week or so...My pics are always out of focus, or my hand shakes, or the light reflects...

I have used a photo set up and a professinal set up, two biggest things in good photos, lighting and letting your camera take good pictures, tripod and f stop / how long the camera lens stays open (this is what I have been fighting).


So, I have gone around this by lighting mostly. And using a good camera.

Using a camera that takes good close ups inside is pretty important, I used the example cameras at the counter to take a picture of a dime with ambient lighting before I bought the camera.

But, nowadays i use my wifes camera, which is twice as good as the one that I have (although mine is not bad for quick shots).

Feel the same. Quality light source costs something. I bought a pair of cheap light along with a small light box from Amazon for ~$60. I did not expect much from it but it has a very annoying issue -- the heavy light "head" stands on a very slim "leg", so the structure is very unstable. Not surprisingly, one day, a light falled down and rolled to the floor, and that's the end of the story. When I tried to replace the broken bulb, I noticed the most unfortunate part: no idea which no-brainer designed this, the light was hold in a welded round steel tube and I can find non-destructive way to open it to replace the broken bulb.

UPDATE

"300bucks" from the Buck Knives Forum gave me permission to post his HowTo to my web site, so the link in post #1 works now.

I made my box today, and got two light "kits"; I'll try to get a sample pic up sometime soon... :)

OK, here's a pic - Only two lights, and probably not placed very well...Macro setting, Kodak EasyShare CX7430...

I was planning on leaving my day job and becoming a photographer but now maybe not... :D
