DMV 1921 finish question?
Would this gun have a blued finish? I don't see a finish listed for the years 1919 to 1933 on Ted's luger services. Would someone please explain, thanks so much. Bob

Bob,
It would have been rust blued. Lugers weren't hot salt blued until early 1937 when Mauser began using the process. Ron |
rust blued?

Dear Bob, During the period you are concerned with(1919-1933), Lugers would have had a rust blue finish with strawed small parts. Rust blueing was a beautiful, durable finish, but was very labor intensive. It was replaced by Mauser in 1937 with salt blueing, which resulted in a blue/black finish that was less durable. Small parts were also blued. Regards, Norm

Norme, thanks. That explains alot. I thought I needed to have it reblued because all the blue/black finish was gone. So if I wanted to restore this pistol, I would want a rust blue finish if that can be done?

Bob & Thor, I understand the these "unusual DMV" (Dept.of Motor Vehicles) PO8s were usually just covered with RED TAPE. Happy Holidays, Tom

OPS, great catch! I just finished paying my DMV fees for our car, then wrote this message. Thanks Governator Arnold for taking my money!
