Dwm 1921
 

Hello, I'm new to the luger. Always wanted one with matching numbers I could afford. Found this one at the local gun shop for $1,000. SN 87121. Don't know what the marks are and have taken a picture. Any information would be appreciated.

you got a DVM military or Police weimar republic time 08.the proofs are only found on 1920 and 21 DVM birds.the proofs are called Dove and Buzzard .

Hi,

These are Weimar Era proof and inspection marks. They replaced those used in Imperial days, as the German Empire ceased to exist after WW1. These pistols were ordered by and made for the Weimar Reichswehr.

In addition, it is a rarer variation called a 5-diget commericial variation that went into military service (no signs of police usage that I can see) made by DWM.


Although rarer, I think you over paid by about $300 because of the lack of finish. It also has a post war magazine in it.

That is a neat gun..."patina" and all! You do not see many with only a 1921 chamber marking (Also like the Gerstner chest it is displayed on, you have good taste). :thumbup: It may be a fairly scarce piece. Does it have a Crown/N on the left side of the receiver? It could be one of the very few routed directly to the Army.

Thanks Ed, I've been looking through gun shops in northern CA for over tens years to find one that didn't break the bank. Always over priced to me and mix matched. You must know the best places to look! I figured I need to start some-where. Now that I've been reading these great posts, I believe my journey has just begun. What a fasinating gun!

I don't know what Crown/n looks like? Nothing seems to be on the left side. the cover plate has the numbers 91 on the inside and not on the outside. This is mentioned in one post, but I don't know if it is correct for my SN?

Vlim, you mean WW1, right?

California prices are more expensive and less gun shows.


A commericially marked gun should have the parts numbered in the "hidden" manner, i.e. sideplate should ber marked on the underside, as should the take down lever. And although you don't want to take the safety lever off, it should be marked on the inside.

I'ts just a bit of a pain to remove and re assemble. If you are at all handy it is not a big deal...

alanint is right... just know that the pin that holds the thumb safety in place has to be pushed downward from the top of the frame and put in from the bottom going up to replace it.
