Early Christmas Luger from wife
5 Attachment(s)
My wife just couldn't wait for Christmas so she found this Interarms American Eagle Mauser for me. Its absolutely brand new in box with book, target and all accessories. Best of all it has the P08 grip instead of the Swiss style. The serial number is strange because I thought all the Mauser Lugers started with 10. or 11.. Its serial number is RG0893. Can somebody tell me about this model and maybe when it was made? This gift just blows me away. Now I'll have to find something for her since she likes Lugers too. Parabellum Christmas?

Seee... Mom likes you too!
They did make a 'Presentation Model' with different serial numbers. But that's all I know about it. Maybe this is one of them? FN |
I am shooting from the hip here, but I think there is/was a South American importer/sporting goods firm by the name of Renato Gamba that special ordered specific lots of guns and they were designated with the RG prefix.

I concur with Ron on the RG..
What a wife..sounds to me like a keeper. |
I think it was Italian and it is a 7.65 cal. He could not follow through with the order and they were sold in the US. I have RG 0877 and RG 0878

Jerry is right,
Renato Gamba is a well known Italian Arms dealer.... |
Yep, she is a fine gal. She isn't much into fancy clothes and jewelry; she likes jeans, t-shirts and pickup trucks and she shares my fascination with Lugers and older S&W revolvers. Since she doesn't read this forum (she is in hospital now) I can say that I have already gotten her a couple of leather skirts along with blouses to wear. I'll probably try to track down a pistol that she has had her eye on also.

Yaa!
Really nice Interarms Parabellum. Renato Gamba, Italian importer and gun producer also commercially tied with Mauser, ordered a certain amount of Mauser Parabellum with his logo (RG), specific configuration and serial number for the Italian Market. Unfortunately at certain point he had serious problem and was not able to get all the pistols. Mauser then re-used frame already marked with the specific Renato Gamba serial number and sold them to Interarms. You have a nice Parabellum in a collectible configuration. Cheers, Mauro |
Thank you, Mauro. Did they mark the frame with the American Eagle after Gamba's deal fell through? I can't imagine an AE for any market but American.
Thanks Charlie |
Charlie,
the originals Renato Gamba P08s have the Renato Gamba (RG) logo on the chamber and the receiver is marked with "Mauser P08 4" Serie Speciale Renato Gamba". In your case Mauser reused frame and receiver that already received the special numbering but not yet the inscription and the logo. The receiver has been finished with the standard American Eagle to "fulfill" the Interarms requirements. Enjoy your nice gun! Mauro |
Thank you. I returned your PM.
