Loose trigger
 

I'm putting together a shooter. Is there a fix for a loose fitting trigger? Are Luger triggers normally loose fitting? Mine has a lot of what I would call "Slop" from side to side.

Jim, It's possible that you are trying to use the thinner M1900 in a PO8 frame. More likely, the axel that holds your trigger into the frame is worn and you need one with a "thicker" axel (this dimention will vary a bit between manufactures) so best to get a trigger made by the same maker as your frame. Jim, Are you sure the trigger is pushed all the way into the frame? I found a trigger on a Luger that someone had lost the trigger spring and used instead a ball-point pen spring! Actually gave it a pretty good trigger pull.

Jerry, yes, it's in the frame. I think that it's just a combination of the trigger pin being several thousanths smaller then the frame hole and also that the other side of the trigger just kind of sets in a depression in the trigger plate. I swapped the trigger out of my 1920 Commerecial which has had very light use and little wear. It helped a lot but still not as good as it could be. I have a copy of the old magazine article somewhere that tells how to tune the trigger. I'll have to dig it out and see what it says. This gun is being put together as a shooter with mismatched parts so playing around with it shouldn't hurt.

Jim, I just built one just like you are doing..Parts gathered from whereever I could scrounge them. Thankfully it fit up and fires. I have a small problem with the magazine release..it's sticky. Acts like the spring is dead. I will have to find another mag release and spring to see if that solves it!
Lugers are finiky sometimes...

Jerry, Assuming that your mag catch spring is OK, check to make sure that the catch is not dragging on the grips on either side (common). TH

Tom, Thanks for the tip! I have been working on it with the grips removed as that's the only way to access the mag release spring.
The catch is a mystery..I cannot find any burrs on either it or the frame. It tends to hang up while moving in and out of it's hole. The spring is questionable at best. It appears to have lost some of it's travel.
Something to play with if I can ever get time away from my holster repairs!
