MOUSER LUGER 1939 "42" with special seal
 

I'm a new member and owner of a Mouser Luger 1939 "42" stamped with what I believe is a lower case "v" below the serial number. No big deal, right? Value between $2000 and $4000 What I can't find info on, is the non-standard grip that's on it. The wood grip is smooth, not hexed and has a round emblem on the left grip. It has a swastika on it with a small house and what I believe are the initials of the solder. I believe this gun was given special as an award for valor. Is this true and how much does it increase its value? Anyone please help, ask your friends. Thank you for your time.

DSB or Badge of the German Homeowners Association (Deutsches Siedlerbundabzeichen). Founded in 1933 and still in existance today. It's estimated that only 32,000 DSB badges were produced prior to 1945 so quite a scarce badge.

Welcome to the forum.

You have a nice 1939 42 Mauser Luger. However the grips are made up later to decorate it. The medallion is a "Deutscher Saengerbund" (German Singer's Association) lapel pin, I believe. I could be wrong, but don't think so. It has nothing to do with the pistol, nor the history of the pistol. Someone, possibly the Vet who brought it home wanted to dress it up, and probably didn't have any idea what the medallion represented.

If it was a presentation piece, the grips would fit much better. Note the gap at the top rear, below the safety. If you can find a set of nice original Mauser checkered wood grips, it would be closer to what it should be and correct.

Nice Luger but your grips with medallion were probably added by an American soldier post war. German soldiers in wartime simply did not do things like that to their sidearms. We would like to have more photos of your pistol though. It looks like a nice one.

Thank you for the quick replies. The grip did fit right, but the previous owner broke off a piece when forcing the grip back on after cleaning. JIM

Yes, DSB could be Deutscher Saengerbund or Deutscher Schuetzenbund.(German Shooters Association) like NRA.
D S B stands nowadays for "Deutscher Sport-Bund", German Sport Association.
But : I 'm sure this pin is neither of one of those organisations.
The "S" within the Saengerbund DSB logo was designed as a treble clef.
The Schuetzenbund logo had a "target" in its logo.
Why is a house in this pin?

I guess somebody just put a swastica pin on some aftermarket grips.

I think it would be a good idea to get a nice set of original grips back on.

FYI: I have a 1939 42. It was purchased on 2 Feb 2009 for $700. It is in similar condition, but has the correct grips and aftermarket magazine.

I believe your value estimate is on the high side and agree with the previous comments suggesting the fitment of original grips.

A wealthy friend of my fathers bought the gun for him at a gun show. The seller told him it was the soldiers initials and given for valor. I guess they saw him coming. Just another reason to check out this web sight before you buy a Luger of your own.

Where should I start the search for some grips??

I'm sure someone here will have a set. Otherwise, GunBroker and Luger Gunboard are good places to look.

Most Luger-related stories of the fantastic should be taken with a grain of salt...sometime a whole shaker's worth. In the short time I've been involved with this site, I've read the presentation/officers Luger story several times. At least yours isn't chrome plated!

Why on earth would anyone inlet that into a Luger grip???

Some people think anything with a swastika on it must be some ominus SS killer item! As stated allready,they had no idea what the pin really was and liked the eagle and swastika,never mind the house in the middle!

I may have an original left side grip to match the condition of your right side, although most military PO8 grips are serialize on the inside. I'd suggest sending me a photo of your right side. I too have had a few lugers with badges inlayed in the grips (Party badges or Luftwaffe eagles) which was commonly done by some GIs. I've attemped shooting Jack Rabbits with my luger, but have yet to try mice. TH
