Nice SAKO Finnwolf

While I didn't know if any of you gentlemen would be interested, I needed to blow my own horn a little on this one.
Last Saturday, I went to a gunshow in Mobile, Al. I wasn't looking for anything in particular, but always notice if someone has Lugers, M-1 Garands, Winchester model 88's , and SAKO Finnwolf's.
Well, I stumbled on to the only Finnwolf I've seen at a show anywhere in about 3 years. Asking price was $729, but after a little negotiating, I got it fot $675. The rifle is in 90%-92% condition. These rifles will usually bring anywhere from $1500-$2200.
I was already happy with my find but when I got home, did a little cleaning and noticed- WOW! - it has serial # 44. This would make it an early 1962 production rifle. I don't think I've ever seen a production gun with this low of a #.
Just goes to show there are a few good deals to be had at gunshows.
Anyway, here's a few pics for you guys, hope you enjoy:

Derek,

That's a nice Finnwolf. Haven't seen one for along time. I've never owned a Finnwolf, but have had a few Finnbears and Foresters. Still have a custom Forester in .243. One of my favorite rifles.

Congratulations!

Thanks, Ron. This one is my 3rd. My 1st is a VL63 "transition " model. It is marked VL63, but has all the VL73 features on it. My other is an ultra-rare 7mm-08 prototype. Finnwolf's were only made in 243 and 308. When I acquired it, I thought it was simply a rebarrel until I asked for some history on it from SAKO. Found out it was the real McCoy!

I recently sold a 7-08 Sako Forester barrel to a guy who said he was going to mount it on a Finnwolf for his son. I was going to re-barrel my .243 with it, but the .243 shoots too good.

This is my .243. It was custom built by a local maker named Ed Plummer. His rifles are in high demand by those who know them. He guaranteed all of them to shoot 1" or better at 100 yds., and they do. He used Sako or Mark X actions, with Walnut or Maple stocks. Every body thinks it's ugly until they see how it shoots. I call it my "Homelier Gun".

The bottom one is a Plummer .300 Win mag. I can't wrap myself around magnum calibers, with exception of .375 H&H, so it was sold to a dealer who collects Plummer's rifles.
