Ruger Single six upgrade

I have a old style Ruger Single six convertable 22 that I was notified by Ruger that they would update for free to the new "Operating system" which prevents accidental discharge caused by a blow to the hammer. They say they will send back the "old" parts for collector purposes.

What would you guys do? Keep it in origional condition or up-grade it? Thought?

Keep it original! I don't like dealing with Ruger. You will be lucky if you see the pistol back in 6 months. Collectors look for originality, not factory upgrades.
If Ruger actually returned your old parts, I would be surprised. And if they did, the pistol will probably contain internal modifications, which will not allow you to return the original parts to the gun.
They are just covering their own A** and returning the part to you probably still implies liability.

As you may have guessed, I don't like Ruger or its corporate business/political practices.

Dave & Doug,

I returned my Ruger Single Six many years ago and they installed the updated parts and returned the original parts.
I didn't like the feel of the gun with the updated parts so I re-installed the original parts.
The gun works normally. :jumper:

Alanint is correct. Ruger collectors frown on the "upgrade". It will devalue your pistol. If you are a responsible gun owner/shooter, you shouldn't need the upgrade anyway.

Also, the upgrade will change the "feel" of the action and it's "clicks".

Thanks Guys....I will keep it as is!

Indeed! I went through all this crap with Ruger a couple years ago, just to get a replacement front sight blade for my old model Single Six. They wouldn't sell me even the blade until I sent in my gun (at their expense, of course) for the whole counterproductive conversion. They keep records by serial number.

As soon as I got it back, I replaced the correct original parts for the right feel and function. They wasted a lot of money on the whole exercise...all of which is charged off to customers in the cost of their firearms.

As usual, the problem is lawyers.
