New member--nice Luger
1 Attachment(s)
Hello, I've just joined this forum--I think that the posts I've seen so far, information learned, plus photos, are terrific! I bought my Luger new on May 2nd, 1973 at the San Francisco Gun Exchange. It cost me $200.40. Once in awhile I will shoot my Luger, 11.006655, at my local rifle range--it doesn't perform flawlessly, so once every year to two is enough. I'm delighted that I've found all of you. Best wishes, Jim

Hello James,
Nice set indeed. Your pistol with accessories and articles is today a nice example of the Parabellum reintroduction made by Mauser starting from 1970. Welcome to the forum. |
I agree with the guys, here. Nice gun with it's originial accessories.
For shooting, try using a new MecGar magazine, rather than the ones that came with the gun. There were a lot of issues with these magazines and I never got mine to work correctly in the gun at all (I use the MecGars). The pistol was made around april/may 1972. |
Welcome Jim.
Did John Moss wait on you? |
I agree with all the above. I had issues with the mag springs. The pistol worked flawlessly with any other mag, but not the ones it came with. Try the MecGars, or see GT, who changed out my mags springs with excellent results.
Another thing you might consider is having the grips re-contoured. The original are very sharp and boxy. I had Hugh re-do mine to approach the DWM profile. Slimmer, more rounded Much better. FN |
Thank you for the warm welcome everyone. I checked my receipt, Jonnyc, and the salesman’s name isn’t on it. What I do remember about that store is the Officer’s Model 1875 Trapdoor Springfield that was on display. It was a beaut! Thanks for the magazine tip, which I plan to follow up on. My Luger doesn’t feel uncomfortable in my hand, so will have to find an early one to hold and compare. Thanks again everyone, Jim

Jim, Rather than modifing your original grips, I can supply new flat black plastic repros and/or new MecGar mags @$35 each + S&H. Are there any gun shops left in SF? TH

I believe SFGE was the last, and is now sadly gone. My good friend was the manager.
