Cone hammer needed

I guyI know has just recieved from a deceased estate a C96 cone hammer, missing the hammer. Why....who knows. I haven't seen the gun, but the guy is pretty clued up, so I imagine he is correct on his assesmentof the gun. The question is,is it possible to find a replacement cone hammer. Where do I start looking. Thanks

Fazer,

Here are some leads. It's going to be like finding a Chicken with Pontoons.

Best of Luck!

There was a guy posting on 1896mauser.com from Argentina who had some Conehammer parts (I got a receiver!)...Look in the For Sale section; he had a big pic of what he had...maybe I can wade through the spam and find it...

Here's the thread -

It's probably the rarest component of C96. Small ring is easy, large ring is hard, and I have never seen a cone shaped hammer for sale alone. One way is temporarily putting a large ring hammer on it, so it becames a "Transitional Large Ring", but the problem is the bolt of CH being different from that of Transitional LRH..... not visible from outside so it still looks correct externally. Good luck in finding this hammer.

Wait.... you might be lucky:

http://www.sksman.com/acces/Mauser%20C-96.php

He lists one, asking $240. "Hammer cone for Mauser broomhandle". Not surprisingly, it's the highest priced part in the list, but if you want one, here it is.

Thanks for that. I have passed on the information. At the end of the day, a gun without a hammer is not worth much, add the hammer and you have something. It would have to add more than $240. to the value, I woud think. I saw that site, but sort of brushed over it, because of the name, I guess. Thanks again.............Chip
