Jan Still in Imperial Lugers, pages 60-61 states that 5 percent of 1913 dated military lugers were unit marked. Here is one of the 5 percent...

It's also the nicest Erfurt that I've seen so far.

Alvin, nice Erfurts are indeed out there. Keep looking!

Congrats- a beauty! Infanterie- Regiment Fürst Leopold von Anhalt Dessau (1. Magdeburgisches) Nr. 26 was part of the 7 Infanterie Division and saw action on the western front- mostly Flandres and battle of the Somme.

Ross,
Your 1913 is a 177th Regiment 'Stab' staff pistol. Staff pistols were arsenal maintained for replacement, or for issue as needed. They were marked with only the Regimental number and not designated to a company or detachment. Pretty neat, and hard to find marking. Right up there with an MG company marking. Ron |
Ron,
Thanks for the info! I researched the Regiment, but did wonder why it wasn't assigned. This place is great! - WOT |
According to this wearness, this gun has been shot at least a few hundred rounds, if not over one thousand (for a semi-auto pistol !!) in normal usage and maintenance mode.... Why was it unassigned? It was assigned. From this shape, the only conclusion can be drawn -- it has never been captured by Russian.
|
The Russians had nothing to do with this pistol. As in the case of most "captured pistols" that are in abused condition the wear and abuse came at the hands of someone here in the States long after the war. Neither German soldiers nor any soldiers abused their weapons.

As long as she is in my hands, she will be taken care of. I've fired close to 100-rds through her (that's hardly any compared to other rifles/pistols I have). Accurate as hell and one of my favorite pistols, but not one that I will be shooting a whole lot.
