My first revolver
 

Lying. Not really the first. But it's the first Colt Revolver that I've touched. Played a bunch of S&W and Nagant 1895 in the past. None of those can compete the finish of this one.

Colt .38 SPL Official Police made between 1947 - 1954.

Question: What's the price of this type NIB in 1950s, $10, $20?

I believe it was $38.

OK. Did a little bit math:

$38 in 1950s = $349 in 2008.

After almost 60 years, this thing did not take off. I would believe a Govt Model or regular military Luger in that era should be similarly priced and now demands 4 digits..... That's one good reason to buy a revolver, it still has room.

I was always a "pistol guy" and never care much about revolvers. Well, this changed when I bought a S&W Model 1917 from the Brazilian Contract. You gotta love those classics! They are really neat and very well done. Now, whenever I can I never pass an old six shooter!

Great gun Doug! Talking about American brand names, I only trust Colt and S&W. Ruger is good, but still not in the position of the other two.

Have been looking at revolvers, especially the 1850 - 1900 percussion versions as these can be had without a license (provided they are not modified to shoot anything other than blackpowder and meet other requirements).

But the nature of their 'free status' means they are getting quite expensive. Even a mere pocket colt is doing around 1000Eur, and the Colt 1850's and 1860's are all in the 2000 - 2500 Euro range.

A similar thing happened in Belgium with the exempted guns, like the Swiss military pistols (amongst them the Swiss lugers). They doubled in price overnight.

I have no stock in any of these gun company's, however may last Remington was a bust, and a $200 buy back from Remington has let me down, on the other hand CZ is hands down some of the finest quailty you will find on todays market....after 35 years of gunsmithing I am not happy with some of the stuff made here in the good 'ol USA.

Legends are always legends! These old vintage revolvers are impressive for their level of finish and fitting. I was very amazed with this S&W action after endured four decades of military service. It is still tight and pleasant to handle.

I am almost exclusively a automatic pistol guy.
That said,the other day a buddy brought over his 1903 Bisley Colt revolver. Finish on it is a little worn,but the gun functions great. Really fun to shoot and very,very accurate.OK to shoot as it was converted to a 38 special,so collector value is low.

I traded a LNIB Colt New Frontier in 45 long colt for a luger a few months ago,as I didn't like shooting it. It didn't fit my hand.The Bisley fit me perfectly. I think I will look around for a Bisley for myself. I hate it when friends bring around guns I haven't tried!:rolleyes:

I like the older S&W revolvers as much as I do Lugers. The Model 1917 and its Brazilian counterpart are a joy to shoot and extremely accurate too. The pre-1898 pistols here in the US are getting scarcer because they can be bought without a license. Many of the quality revolvers, Colt and S&W, can be shot using light loads of smokeless powder. There are resources on the net that give these light loads.
