Barry, your 1911 P08 is unit marked to the 19th Train Battalion, Sanitaets company 1, weapon number 107. Yours is the third on my list of P08's issued to the 19 Train Battalion Sanitaets companies...6605e - 19.T.S.1.9., 7008e - 19.T.S.1.144., 7019e - 19.T.S.1.107.

In my list of unit marked P08's there are eleven unit marked DWM P08's in 1911 between serial numbers 3860e and 7601e. All eleven are marked to Sanitaets units.

My list is built upon Jeff Noll's list in "The Imperial German Regimental Marking".

Your take down lever is broken, which will considerably reduce the gun's value. Unless you are lucky enough to find a vintage, correctly numbered replacement.

Barry, the best sources for information on unit marked Imperial German weapons are: Jan Still "Central Powers Pistols" which is available from the author, Albrecht Wacker and Joachim Goertz "Handbuch Deutscher Waffenstempel" which I believe is still in print, Goertz and Bryans "German Small Arms Markings" and Jeff Noll "The Imperial German Regimental Marking". I believe that both of the latter titles are out of print, you might find them on Ebay.

With units such as your pistol exhibits the problem is finding out to which German division they were attached, only then can you find a combat history. For this task I frequently turn to a series published jointly by the Imperial War Museum, London and The Battery Press, Inc. here in the US. Among their many titles "Handbook of the German Army 1914" and "The German Forces in the Field November 1918" might prove most helpful.

The 19th Train Battalion is the 2. Saxon. It will be very hard to find some more informations because it was not a fighting unit.
Sometimes people of these units were mentioned in regiment histories

Thanks to every one for this information!
I only got 1 question left!
If i won't to sale it how much can i ask for it?

Barry, did you try Tom Heller (Luger Doc) for a take down lever?? There may even be some European parts sellers that a member here would know of. Even a mismatch could be more appealing than a broken one. I am sure there are more than a few on this site that would talk you through the proceedure of changing it.

As for selling, it would probably not be of much interest with the damage.....even with the scarce grip strap marking. What is the bore condition??? More useful pictures to add would be of the left side from the safety lever to the middle of the barrel, the rear grip strap and right side to include the barrel. PJHeck
