Navy Luger on GunsAmerica

Could someone look over item #940170018 on GunsAmerica? Is this a fake story? I thought in 1920 the shortened some Navies to 4". Was the 100'200 Navy sights removed also? Could this be a true navy reworked? I might ask for better pictures.

Bill,

The story is Bull Hockie!! It's a shooter parts gun built on a Navy frame, with a bad reblue, worth less than half the asking price. Imagination is a wonderful thing.

Some poor novice will probably end up with it, only to discover he will now have to use the same BS story to try to get his money back.

The story is partially true, but not with this particular gun. Here are two legitimate Weimar Reichsmarine reworks. 4" barrels with standard rear sight toggle links. There are original examples which still retain the two position rear Navy sight, but they are few and far between.

Bill,

For example. Here's a very rare Navy Luger. It looks nice, and I could probably dupe some unknowing soul into buying it for a bundle, with a well formatted "Gun Show" BS story.

However, it is a 1937 S/42 Mauser that someone refitted with an original Navy sight and a cut down and turned Artillery barrel. Note the "fine Tune" Arty front sight. All matching numbers.

Ron

Just found it (last photo). A photo of Joe May's Weimar Reichsmarine rework which retains the original sight.

I like Ron Smiths intelligence on this one. Don't buy a WW2 navy until you feel that you have a lot of background on them. In these bad economic times, there are a lot on people trying to get rid of their 'mistakes'. We all make mistakes, but its hard to get rid of them. Don't buy WW2 navies until you really feel that you know your stuff.
