42 stamped aluminum base mag

My otherwise matching 41byf has a non numbered mag with a little 42 stamped on it. Did someone mention that people have stamped these to match there guns? Obviously not correct or ethical but I have not seen these for sale to my knowledge. What was correct for my 5753u 1941 byf in really nice original condition?

A 5753u would have been about 2/3 of the way through that run. A type 4 army. Blued extruded tube, square cut bottom, marked; fxo, some with E/37. P.08 on the left side of mag. Aluminum bottom generally. Some overlap with black plastic which generally went to the byf 42.

Yes, some folks have renumbered these, no one i know, but its done.

I have had 2 or 3 of the 42 with a number stamped in it. I have also had 2 or 3 non-numbered and i can always get about $250 for one ;)

Mag

Would the 5753u have been stamped on the blue body aluminum based mag this late in the run? Or would any blank mag end up with numbers? I would prefer a blank versus mismatch I think.

Magazine in 1941 byf

Looking at this post I realize I did not give adequate info.

The magazine is shiny silver colored and slant cut at the bottom with a bottom pin.

No stamps but the tiny 42 on the round area on the edge of the aluminum base.

Does not appear to have any markings removed

The hole for the catch is worn long as the mag hangs out of the gun slightly and does not feed correctly.

I bought a Mitchell arms mag 20 years ago and the gun feeds and shoots perfectly.

Magazine is in excellent shape.

What is it?

Hi Bob, your magazine is an armours replacement. It's a legit magazine, but it wasn't original to your pistol. As FNorm stated, fxo magazines were shipped with your Luger and were most probably numbered with the pistols serial number, including the suffix "u" on the bottom. I hope this helps!

Nice thing about these replacement mags that are only marked "42" on the bottom, they are "correct" as replacements on Mauser Lugers. They are not cheap when you go to buy them.
