P38 Newbie Question: Is this byf good?

http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Vie...Item=141897855

Like this black gun, but know absolutely nothing:

(1) Any obvious issue from the pix?
(2) Fair market price for this configuration and condition?
(3) Is P38 magazine normally unnumbered?

TIA

I like it, too... :)

I'm no expert, and I've only owned three P-38's (two were 35+ years ago), but the market for Walther P-38's seems low today with correspondingly low prices (my Russian capture was $400)...Having said that, and since auction is not over, the last bid of $672 (at this writing) seems on the higher end, for this point in time at least...Will be interesting to see what it sells for...

One point - he states "We will ship this to a C&R holder; however, we do not send a copy of our FFL as it is not required by law."...My state/FFL receivers do require a copy of the sellers' FFL or C&R FFL...

Thanks Postie!

I had an Interarms P-1 in the past. Everything is OK except it's not all steel. Since $672 is on the high end, I will wait the next one.

That was my reason for not buying a P-1 at the local Gander Mountain...Aluminum frame...

My comment on price is my own personal opinion, from checking GB for a shooter...Since I don't care about matching or even good bore...but I do like no [exterior] pitting...or at least minimum...

That said, it looks to me like P-38's are going for about 1/2 to 3/4 the price of a comparable Luger...At this time...

IMO, it is a good time to buy P-38...

18 bids on that one...$25 S&H...plus whatever your local FFL receiver charges...(unless you are nearby/same state)...

GB pics always exaggerate scratches, pits, wear...

It's not a *bad* price (IMHO)...Just not a great price...but auction still hasn't ended...might be some collector want it and bid big...

The gun looks to be in good shape and original. They quit numbering magazines around early 1942 for Walther and never numbered for Mauser. As price it is near the top, 1944 had a very good year and about 120,000 were made. I would not pay more than $700 at this time for this gun.

Thanks for the info!

Temporarily skipped P38. I saw a Mauser 1914/34 Transitional and paid highest price in the world so I could win (another bidder compete, I had no choice). I have been looking for an appropriate one for a while, and finally got one:

A lovely Mauser Pocket.

Idenfication should be 1914 (not transitional), it has two line address. This type of gun is very well made.

Well, it sold for the $672... :)

I like this seller. Start at one big cent, no reserve and let market decide the price. Regular P38 is a little bit undervalued on the market IMO.

A new movie with lots of P38 activity is "Defiance". I just watched the DVD last night.

Guys, a little bit surprise.

I received the 1914 today. It looks OK on ad pictures, but when I look at it in hand, it's reblued. Not fully reblued -- side plate, barrel, and slide have original finish, but the frame was reblued some time ago.

There are lots of traps in this world.

Yet another good one! Keep an eye on it please.
