Somebody is offering this WW1 magazine pouch.
Any idea if this pouch is an original? The owner states it is an original.

It would be dated if original.....

Andy..No, it is not. It appears to be a nicely made pouch but there are some key differences in it and an original German Artillery pouch.

The Germans did not sew in a leather disc/pad under the closure stud. The stud was left bare where it was mushroomed over the washer on the underneath of the top flap.

You can look at the profile of this closure stud and it is not made as the Germans made them. This one is too large a ball and the stem is too long. Also there is NO partina on the brass or the leather.
It does not look like it was made 90 some years ago, went thru the Great War and survived to tell the tale.

A decent attempt but falls way short of this collectors eye.

Not all original pouches were marked. Many Artillery pouches have interesting maker markings and dates though. You really must judge the piece for what it is here and now.

Jerry,
thanks. You are right, it looks too good for an original.
I have never seen one of those before.

I got one similar to that for about $20 on eBay. I use it at the range.
