1917 Tool

Can anyone let me know more about this tool that came with my 1917 DWM Luger? There's no marking anywhere I can find.

It looks correct to me. Most DWM tools were not marked.

Many thanks Mike.

Cheers.

Vernon, if possible, please post photos on the forum. Using photbucket or the like; well, most people taking a look from work, can't see them.

Just checking if there is any guide/info around that shows how the tool works or how do we use it? Until today I still can't figure out what it is for. It took me a while to relate it to the side of the magazine body but not sure how that works, is it mainly to be able to pull the follower button down easier or something else?

Any help will be great. Thanks in advance.

You got it. Put the tool over the mag follower with the screw drive part to the top. There is a little rim inside the hole that catches on the mag follower. Pull down with the thumb of the hand that is holding the mag. Load cartridges with the other hand.

Thanks FN. So after pulling the button all the way down is the follower suppose to be staying at the bottom (compressed) and lock in that position? Otherwise I thought there is no point of having this tool as our thumb can easily pull the button down (eventhough it is small)?

Also do you know what is the parts that are portrude out on both sides are for? Looks like it is for a purpose. And at the other end I can pretty much figure out that is used as a screw driver.

Sorry for asking so many noob question I feel stupid but I'm just too interested in the pistol and want to know more about it.

Thanks in advance.

No, the follower does not lock down. The channels cut in the tool match the sides/rails on the magazine, so it slides easily and stays in place. See the back side of the tool. Some mag springs are so stiff that it is difficult to load more than 5 of the 8rds without the tool. Maybe all of them were that way when new?

You may be interested in the 'sticky' on mag tools, I think in the new collector's file. If not search for it.
