My Two Bringback Inherited babies
Ok, so to start off, my grandfather brought both of these back from WWII they are both 41byf i believe. One was personally found by him in a Reichstad (spelled wrong) building, sometime after he landed at Omaha in '44. The other was purchased from a friend around the same time. (i also inherited a K98 Mauser if anyone wants to see that.)
http://forum.lugerforum.com/picture....&pictureid=810 So i know nothing about these guns, except that they have been passed from my grandfather to my father (who knows nothing about guns) to me (for safekeeping) both of these guns are numbers matching and in relatively good condition. Neither of these have been removed from their holsters or shot or cleaned in at least 40 years. So it is up to me to take care of them. I appreciate any help you all can give me with the history, condition, approx value (although i would never sell) etc.. i would like to turn one of these into a shooter so any help would be appreciated, i also have no idea how i should be storing any of these... esp the holsters!! is there any way i can clean the leather/preserve it? sorry for the text block. here are the guns: first one is 41 byf SN 1736 s (looks like) was in a brown leather holster w/ g.weiss stamped on back with WaA330 and 1938 on it. it had an alum mag w/ 2246 h and ane eagle with a 63 below it http://forum.lugerforum.com/picture....&pictureid=800 http://forum.lugerforum.com/picture....&pictureid=802 http://forum.lugerforum.com/picture....&pictureid=803 http://forum.lugerforum.com/picture....&pictureid=804 http://forum.lugerforum.com/picture....&pictureid=805 Second luger is in nicer condition with 41 byf 198 b (looks like) eagle/135 stamped twice on the side and a swastika eagle. mag is plastic bottom with fxoo and eagle 37 stamped on it. holster is black leather with EKSI stamped and WaA101 1939. takedown tool looks like eagle/666 but its really hard to tell if its 666 or 656. http://forum.lugerforum.com/picture....&pictureid=806 http://forum.lugerforum.com/picture....&pictureid=807 http://forum.lugerforum.com/picture....&pictureid=808 http://forum.lugerforum.com/picture....&pictureid=809 http://forum.lugerforum.com/picture....&pictureid=813 http://forum.lugerforum.com/picture....&pictureid=814 thanks for the help, sorry about the readability of the post, im pretty excited that my dad gave these to me. I appreciate any help with how to care for these, etc... |
Welcome to the forum. If both are collectable and I think they are, then shooting one could break a part. Unlikely, but it does happen, I broke a BREACHBLOCK ON A SHOOTER LAST SUMMER.
So, breaking a breachblock could lower the value in half. Main things are? All matching (last two on most parts) Lightly clean and oil them (take grips off and then not a whole lot more to me and then clean it with a rag and plenty of hoppes or clp or whatever type of gun oil you can pick up. holsters, use sparingly anything on them; maybe buy some connolys and use that. Do a search and you'll see lots of info on holsters. Ed |
awesome thanks man.
honestly i just want to know the value of these cause of curiosity, i would NEVER sell them. also they are both fully number matching guns. the mags holsters and key dont match. thanks for the welcome |
Beautiful pieces right there, love to see the true war babies :)
Was your father a 29er? |
"sometime after he landed at Omaha in '42"
No offense, but the Omaha Beach landing (D-Day) took place on June 6, 1944. Just a small correction.;) Nice Lugers, no matter when they were aquired. Show us the K98. Ron |
LB, It's difficult to tell to much from your photos, but the later E/135 accepted 41 does appear to have a better finish, a correct E/37 mag and E/655 marked tool. The fact that the holsters are dated earlier, makes no difference, as they were issued separately from the pistols. This rig should commard a price in the $1700+ range, if the grips match and the bore is exc. Your lessor condition 41BYF rig would be in the $1200 to $1500 range and should be insured for the higher amounts. TH
