Crazy Heirloom
 

My wife's GG Grandfather was in the military (German). She's got his uniform and his saber and I recently found his Luger pistol in the attic.
The pistol is missing about four parts (the pieces that allow it to fire).
I've looked for a serial number other than what is stamped on the underside of the barrel but I can't find any.
The number under the barrel is 1493. It has a crown with the letter "N" under it.

If someone can help me to identify about how old this weapon is and if it's possible to still get parts for it that would be a true blessing.

Looks like at least the side plate and the take down lever are missing. These parts should be fairly easy to come by.

If I were you I would look long and hard for the parts as they were most likely removed to keep anyone that came across the pistol from being able to make it functional.

I bet they are hidden, stored, put away for safe keeping somewhere.

We really need to see more. Top, toggle, both sides especially any proof marks on the frame. Bottom of the mag, etc. See some of the pictures in the albums section of this forum. Then post them to this Forum.

Right now it sounds like a commercial, the crown n. Most parts are available. See Lugerdoc in the links and resources, left side of main screen.

Crown n is a commericial marking.

what caliber is it in?

It is also marked "germany" which was an export to the USA marking.


I have also moved this to the new collectors area; as its not a 1900 or 1906 luger.

btw. The parts you need seems to be the sideplate, take down lever, and take down lever spring.
Those parts should be easy to get but the sideplate could require some fitting.
But as cma22inc says, Take a long and good look for those parts in the house. ;)

I appreciate all the responses to my post.

It was a fortunate find.
The suitcase this weapon was in was pulled from my late mother in law's estate after she passed.
It's my belief that when her GG Grandfather passed, she was very fortunate to get her hands on it. However, I don't believe she knew that it was missing parts when she took it.
The rest of the family, scavengers that they are, picked over the rest of his belongings.
The missing parts were most likely discarded as junk.
I'll work on getting better pictures uploaded to this site.
There are not very many markings, however.
