I just acquired a DWM 1921 Luger. It's chambered for 9 mm and the numbers match except the magazine. The plastic grips are loose and I intend on replacing them with some wooden ones. any help on the history of this Luger would be appreciated.

Jeffrey C.

The grips are 1950's-60's vintage made by Franzite. Not very high quality, but virutally all that was available after the war for many years.

I will let other comment on your Luger... not much original finish left, but all matching numbers is nice.

Welcome to the Lugerforum.

Jeffrey, I agree with John S, get rid of those white Franzite grips. They can be tighten up with some rubber O rings under the grip screws, but your luger with look better with better fitting new repro wood or BW plastic grips for around $25. If your Weimar PO8 (later reworked at an Army depot, judging from right side markings) is in fact all matching with an exc bore, it may be a candidate for resoration and a more original type wood grips (@$50) to go with the improved finish. Your Luger is a 1921 Reichswehr Army contract DWM Luger that was repaired or reworked in the 1930's by Simson's, judging from the additional stamps in front and to the rear of the original proofs. Eagle Hr 29 is stated to be a Heeres Reichwehr office 29 acceptance. The front Eagle is a mid 30s waffenamt. Both of these marks are said to be found on Simson reworked Lugers.

This the first 1921 that I have seen these markings on.

Jeff, I cannot see the entire chamber ...is 1921 the only date on it?
Thanks, Jerry

Yes, a single date
