While a lot of the variation in prices may be condtion, it is the little stuff that can really drive up the price. One that looks beat but was made by an obscure mfg. or year is worth a bunch, as are those with certain rare features or markings. Or an average Luger with matching numbered magazines is priced dramatically higher than a mis-matched mag. gun. And don't even get me started on 2 matching mags...

Thanks to both of you, that helped clear some stuff up.

I've never owned a luger before (obviously) and being so new to this i don't even know where to start to make my first buy. From what I've gathered I'd be looking for a shooter definately under $1,000, something that I could shoot and just get the feel for. Could you guys help point me in the right direction and enlighten me with more specifics for a first buy? I will continue to read this forum and other sources as well.

by the way..great site.

As a "shooter" almost anything would "work", but sometimes it is good to decide if you care to get a Imperial, Weimar or Nazi era or a commericial, or possibly a total or mostly mismatch.

For shooting, a 9mm is the cheapest to shoot. :) and many commercial models are 7.65mm (30 luger)

Seems like I'm seeing a lot of late, mis-matched Mausers out there. I have a, mostly 1941 byf with at least 5 different numbers in it. it is an excellent shooter.

Also check the For Sale forum here to see if any member has a Luger that you might be interested in. You will find that guns sold by members are frequently much less than you would pay at a gun show.

I have seen the moniker "garandman" before. Have you used it for a long time? or is it new to you? or do you use it on other forum websites?

Oh yeah, i was going through that last night and it did seem a lot cheaper than what i was finding elsewhere online. I probably wouldnt be making any purchases veeery soon sadly because I'm low on money.

Yeah, I've been using it for a while. I'm not sure where I've used it because sometimes it's interchangable with another one. A long time ago I used to post on the History Channel forum. Also, when I was a lot younger I used it for when I played online video games.

I would suggest that first and foremost you purchase some reading material! One book to get you started is Luger Tips. It's a $15.00 book so very affordable and will give you the basics on Lugers. They sell on e bay. See below.

Regarding price, I guess it all depends on how hard you look. I do much traveling for my job and never pass a gun shop without stopping. I also network with friends and get many leads that way as well.
