Just inherited Luger - may sell
 

This was initially posted in the new collectors forum, however I'm moving it here since I may sell my Dad's luger. My father recently passed away and I have his old Mauser. The registration card says is was manufactured by Interarms-Mauser, it is a .30 caliber, the model is a Parabellum, serial number 10,001928, color blue, 6” barrel. It does not have a magazine. I don’t know if it’s ever been fired. It looks to be in excellent condition, with a Warranty of Statement of Liability card, and the original manual (which is in pretty good shape). It does not have a box, and was stored in a padded Ruger bag. I have additional pictures.

When you post a Luger in the "For Sale" it is required that you include an asking price. It is not permitted to ask for offers as this is not an auction site. Thank you for posting your Luger and thank you in advance for complying with the rules and stating a price.

For those interested: It is a documented pistol from the 'first delivery' group of pistols from Mauser to Interarms. With documented I mean that it's serial number exists on surviving Mauser factory export papers.

Sorry didn't mean to break rules regarding the requirement to post a price. I'll remove this post and put it somewhere else (suggestions anyone?) until I figure out what it's worth.

You should ask for help pricing it in the "All Post-War Lugers" section. I have seen those sell quickly for $800 and sit on tables for $1200, but others may have a different take. Maybe you can check GunBroker.com to figure out what others like it are selling for.

Are you sure that you want to sell your Dad's gun? Good luck with whatever you decide.

Try looking at past sales on the gun auction boards like Gunbroker. This may give you a clue.

Price wise, I think that the following values come pretty close:

29/70 and 06/73:
-Unboxed or boxed but used, incomplete or worn < 700.
-Unboxed, incomplete set in good condition 800 - 900.
-Boxed, complete in good or unfired condition, no provenance. 900 - 1200.

Add about 100 for a Transitional (1972) and non-regular barrel lenghts (4" .30 luger, 5").

29/70, 06/73, Transitional (1972)
-Boxed, complete, mint condition, with provenance (documentation available) 1500-ish.

Specials
-Special versions, rare finish, early prototypes, one-offs, etc... 2000+ depending on condition, rarity, completeness, provenance etc...

Provenance: means that the pistol serial number is recorded and available in period documentation.
Incomplete: A normal set includes the box, pistol, test target, warranty card, manual, loading tool, 2 magazines (Mauser marked!), cleaning brush, medallion with pistol number. Any part that is missing, is not numbered to the gun or has been replaced (magazines by KKK magazines, for example) lowers the value. The paper box, test target and medallion are numbered to the gun!

Since pistol 1928 is incomplete, but has provenance, it would fall into the 800 - 900 range, perhaps a little more.

I'm sorry I'm just getting back to this now, but I've been traveling (getting my son situated at college!!). Thank you so much Vlim! I appreciate the comprehensive information, and I will most likely post it in the Guns for Sale forum once I've had the chance to make sure I understand how selling a gun is accomplished. Hopefully I'll be able to do that by the end of the week. Thanks again for everyone's help and patience with such a rookie!
