The short barrel is a first issue military, all matching. Marked B.M.S.45. on the front strap. Bavarian Gunnery School weapon # 45. Purchased from the widow of the serviceman who brought it back. He later went on to be a colonel in the USAF test flying the F-111. Came with the holster. No date but marked L. Ritcen karlsruhe. No date.

The arty's are both 1917's w/ fine adjust rear sights. One I got from Tom A. a few years ago. All matching including the mag. The other is matching but for three parts and the mag. Marked with British import markings.

The stock I have no clue about. No markings at all.

Very nice.

You should add a police lguer to the mix from the weimar period (hey, I know someone selling a few of them ;))

Seriously, nice start, especially the first bring back :)

Well, since I'm a cop I'd love to have one. Affording it is another matter.

DavidJayUden 07-30-2009 04:34 PM

I'm curious about the stock. Not the usual flat board variety? If it is oval shaped like a real gunstock, I'd like to hear more about its origins from those in the know.

looks like a custom or reproduction carbine stock to me. I have never seen an original one with the lever checkered like this one.

DavidJayUden 07-30-2009 04:41 PM

And while I hate to keep beating this dead horse, IF that stock is not the correct style stock (orig. or faithful repop.) for an artillery Luger, then technically you are in violation of the GCA of 1933 (34?).
We may be getting a bit anal here, but you, in your current occupation, don't want the BATF at your door. Kind of like owning a couple of parts from an M16 trigger/bolt group. That's OK until you come home with an AR15. Doesn't matter that you never install them into the AR.
Solution? Post that the stock has been disposed of...

DJU, simple possession is not a problem, even with AR15/ M16 parts. In fact, Colt currently puts M16 bolt carriers in their AR15's because of problems with the cut-away carriers.

I've read both about the detachable stocks, OK, not OK. However, since that photo was taken I traded the stock for an ammo can of 9mm.

The stock is just like a conventional stock, oval. I bought it at a gunshop about 10-12 years ago. They didn't know anything about it.

I would like to see more detailed photos of the Bavarian marked P08.

Last ones. The side plate puzzles me. The previous number is crossed out and the full number restamped. But it was already stamped 34 on the underside where it should have been. Armorer screw-up?

Ron Wood 07-30-2009 06:21 PM

Somebody screwed-up and it is a shame. That is a pretty nice looking First Issue with a neat unit mark. They aren't easy to come by.
By the way, simple possession is a problem but most likely would not be vigorously enforced unless there was some other factor involved. If you own a Luger stock and do not have the corresponding type Luger to go with it, possession of both items can be considered "intent" to create a short barreled rifle whether or not the stock is ever actually installed on the gun. A fine point, and as I said probably not likely to be pursued, but it is indeed a potential problem. Glad you swapped it for a can of ammo.

Thanks guys, I stand corrected on the stock issue. It's a moot point now since I traded it. Not much good anyway if you can't use it. It was very nice, though.

Even though I'm in law enforcement I don't pretend to know all laws everywhere. Local guys like me rarely are involved in federal gun laws. Since you all have been into this hobby for far longer than I, I will defer to the base of knowledge here and thank you for educating me.

Very nice!
