Did you know.....??

Most of us would recognize 1908 as a big year for the Luger.... pretty much standardized... especially major components... Of coures, 1914 saw some fairly substancial changes.. but to this point, I had thought that because of repair and replacement requirments, interchangability was a slam dunk so to speak... Well, not so fast! Yesterday, when playing with my stuff, I discovered in my little Lugers parts pile, a fairly decent frame... most likely Mauser, but I later tried DWM as well.... I hung a bunch of well fitting parts on it with the intention of making another never to be shot shooter!!!... Anyway, everything went together all too smoothly... I was using a 1913 dated receiver, and all seemed fine... One exception, the holdopen wouldn't engage... tried another holdopen, another breechblock, another holdopen, ANOTHER breechblock.... you get the idea... Then, completely puzzled, I tried a whole'nother top end.. bingo.. now I started comparing parts... and what I discovered was 08 & 1914 forward, receivers and frames, are not interchangable???... I either never knew, or have / had forgotten this..??? The bottom rear of the 13 receiver where it nests in the very back of the frame has a smaller radius on the rails (old frames have a matching radius) ... hence a latter receiver will probably work on an early frame, (Yes, compatability, I know!!:jumper:) but, an older receiver will NOT work with a newer frame, poor interchangability... How many of you were aware of this?? Just a little fun fact discovery!! I have to revel in the little things lately!!!:jumper: Best to all, til....lat'r....GT:jumper:

Very interesting! But then everything is still new to me.

Thanks for the info. I'm still a learner also.
