Nazi Markings/Stampings on Lugers
 

Hi all,

Just need to check if all WWI Lugers that were used in WWII all should have Eagle/Swastika stamp on them like those found on Walther P38? How do we identify if a Luger has been used in WWII period? Do they have special kind of markings other than those stampings from Imperial or Weimar periods?

I want to get a Luger and want to be 100% sure it has also been used in Nazi era. Any help will be very much appreciated.

Vernon, many lugers were used from WW1 to WW2; but there were also Krieghoffs and Mausers that had commericial markings and were used in WW2 by army, navy, police and air force.

If you can find it, buy Third Recih Lugers by Jan Still. Since its expensive read on this forum and you should be able to figure out that any nazi era lugers accepted into army service would be marked as you want.

so, to make it short, if made for army service; then it would be accepted with the dirty bird. However, many lugers served through WW2...

I have a 1918 DWM that was captured by the Soviets during WWII. It obviously saw action in WWII but it doesn't have any Waffenampts just imperial eagles.

I would assume Russian found this guy's sidearm carrying Nazi stamps, because it's an issued gun:

But Russian probably also found his gun having no Nazi stamps -- it's private property carried-over from WWI.

So basically those Lugers produced prior to WW2 (commercial or military), even they were actually used and approved to be used in WW2 would not necessary have the Waffenampts on them am I right?

What about those Lugers manufactured during 1940 to 1945, clearly these only saw the 2nd war, when they leave their factory will they have Nazi eagle marking on them?

Yes, except for the very few commertial guns manufactured during this period.

I've done some search and reading can someone please correct me if I am wrong. Only byf 41, 42 will have Eagle/swastika firing proof on them?

If so I can now narrow down my search to get my first Third Reich Luger.

Vernon, you are almost correct. The swastika firing proof is located on later 1939, all 1940, 41 Code 42, 41 byf and 42 byf Military Mauser Lugers. :)

Well, the nazi's were in power well before 1939...

They started to ensure the swastika was on many items, flags etc before Poland was invaded in 1939.

Although not a swastika, there was an eagle on K and G dates, also on 1936, 1937's?

Droop and straight eagles, but the proof wasn't a swastika?

They still were made by and for the nazi's.


So, my point is that the symbol for proof firing changed, but you are limiting yourself to what, WW2 lugers; which is a good thing as a collector.

Simply trying to find "nazi" marked items, well, thats not my thing :rolleyes:
