Need expert opinions

On condition and value of a 1916 dated DWM luger with 2 magazines (original?) and holster and tool that a friend of mine picked up from a gentleman in his 80's, that he had brought back from the war.

I tried uploading pictures last night and this morning but it seems the photo server is down :banghead: , so I made a few web pages with the pictures for now and later I will upload the pictures to this post as I see that is the preferred method.

The market is funny right now.

All matching (appears to be, check firing pin), with 2 matching mags, and tool and nice holster.

If original and appears to be, probably $2500-$3000

(Just as an FYI, if no matching mags, then $1200-$1500, plus $250-$300 for the holster); matching mags from WW1 are unsual and have been faked, they will want to be looked at close.

Brkdnc.....Please keep me in mind if you determine a price for this based on the experts in this forum. They have the knowledge to place a fair market value on this (I do not have that type of knowledge). It looks like a great DWM. Thank you, Scott

Does that witness mark look right or is that just a matter of the camera angle?

Looked OK to me at the time, but I don't have it to take a closer look at.

A great matching rig as this, in prime condition, and this is, will bring min $3,800.00, even in these trying times......an 1916 rig just does not get any better......thanks for sharing it

I'm not an expert but it seems to be a wonderful rig. If mags are original and not reblued or refurbished you have a treasure. Don't sell at any price.

Thanks for sharing!!!!!!!!!!!!

Love it!!

Should we see a suffix on the mags, assuming that there is one on the frame?

alvin 07-21-2009 10:06 PM

Not supposed to carry suffix because the barrel has no suffix. The frame does not supposed to have sufffix either.

cma22inc 07-21-2009 10:27 PM

Very nice indeed. Thanks for sharing!

DavidJayUden 07-21-2009 10:27 PM

Why no suffix on the frame? Is it a year of mfg. thing?

rolandtg 07-21-2009 11:07 PM

Very, very, pretty! Are the grips also numbered to the gun?

alanint 07-21-2009 11:27 PM

WOW, I didn't know they numbered the grips also. I will have to see If I can get him to bring it back over and check the grips and the firing pin and give it a cleaning while I am at it, it needs it if you didn't notice it in the pictures. ;)

I am pretty sure they will match but only one way to know for sure.

alanint 07-22-2009 09:07 AM

Please, PLEASE be careful in removing the left grip especially. Hundreds of grips have been chipped right where they meet the safety lever due to prying up or impatient removal.
This would be almost criminal on a pristine rig like this one.

Work on each grip by tapping gently and evenly from the inside through the magazine well with a non marring object like a wooden dowel.
