FN Browning 1922

I have a 1922 that I use for a shooter. I never paid much attention to it, as it has always performed. Last time out with it, while I was cleaning it, I had a closer look and realised that there were bits I didn't understand. It is eagle N marked with wooden grips. Sn 164332.

On the left hand side of the trigger guard, in front of the trigger, is Stamped MR. Any ideas what that means.

Also the grips appear original, aged anyway. But others I've seen have a flat space at the top of the checkering on the grips. On mine the checkering runs all the way to the top. The only marking inside the grips is a stamped M.

Just figured I should have more knowlage of this piece. can anyone help.

Thanks...Chip
