I'm new and not sure what I have...

So....I think the title says it all. I found this forum 'cause i've really curious about the Luger I have. Belonged to my father and I still have no clue how he got it. He was stationed in Germany when he was in the Army circa 1959. Anyway...if anyone has any insight, i'd appreciate it.

Thanx for reading.

Hi,

Nice pistol, but not a luger. It's a Walther P38, the pistol that replaced the luger (P08) in the German army during and just before WW2.

The Walther P38s are fun to shoot. Just shoot Win white box 9mm in it or the equivalent. These old guns aren't rated for +P ammo.

Howdy!

You should pop over to the P38 forum http://www.p38forum.com/ and post these photos.
The folks over there are friendly and knowledgeable and can tell you everything about your pistol!

What you have there is an AC42 P38 9mm pistol. The "AC" was the code for Walther. (P38's were manufactured by Walther, Mauser, and Spreewerk.) The "42" is the year of manufacture.
