My trigger doesn't reset when firing?
 

I just bought my first Luger its a 1918 Luger and when I shoot it the trigger doesn't reset unless I push it forward with my finger.

However, if I am cocking it manually it resets every time.

Any help appreciated.

Dumb question: Is there a spring behind the trigger? There's supposed to be a small spring that pushes the trigger forward, you can see it from the side without disassembling the trigger.

Is it clean? I can imagine a ball of 90 year old grease...

Could be a weak disconnector spring (sear bar plunger spring) or over rotation of the trigger bar (angled piece inside the side plate). Check with Tom Heller (Lugerdoc) at email
hellerarms@webtv.net He has spare parts and much know how to fix this problem. It is fairly common on Luger I restore. Also Wolff springs sells the trigger return spring if yours is weak. Tom also probably has those if yours is weaken or missing.

It is clean, there is a spring there.

It resets fine if I charge/cocck it manually, but not when I shoot it.

Is it that the trigger isn't going forward, or the firing pin isn't cocking? I had this problem with a 1920, 7.65. The fix is easy. See the 'sticky' under repairs, restorations, etc on the main board.

I fixed an Erfurt Luger that was doing this yesterday. It needed a new spring for the sear bar plunger button and the trigger bar (part in the sideplate) ground down due to over rotation of the arm. Hugh has a good method of fixing this problem listed at the top of this section of the forum listed as "cocking problems" as a sticky message. Tom Heller (Herr Luger Doktor) supplied the parts. :roflmao:

you may want to check that the upper is recoiling far enough to clear the plunger on the sear. If it does not go far enough back than the plunger will be pushed back by the trigger bar and not reset. I've seen this happen on mismatched guns. I recently swapped the uppers on my 06 Bern and an 06/29 and found this to be the case on the 06 Bern with the 06/29 upper. It won't reset without a bit of fiddling...The plunger may be broken or have slipped forward some so that it won't allow reset too.

Check that and all the other stuff suggested and you should have a fix....

The trigger isn't going all the way forward after I shoot it.
I have to give it a little push forward with the front of my trigger finger, then it will fire.

When I dry fire it after cocking it, it works every time though.

Moses, Your trigger may be rubbing against the side plate, so one or the other may require some fitting. I just encountered this problem agsin, when exchaging side plates on a nickel plated shooter. TH
