S/42 Luger (lots of pictures)

Just showing the Luger my grand dad brought back from the war. If anyone has some useful info they can tell me based on markings, that would be pretty awesome! Also, can I get some opinions on the % of finish this pistol has? To me it seems like 85%-90%, but I'm really NOT an expert! A decent amount of bluing is worn off the front strap, but not all of it. BTW, It's not 100% clean; every few years (like 5+) I put 10-20rds through it; this was shorty after doing just that.

Looks like a nice 1939 (year made) Mauser manufacturer (S42) luger made for WW2.

Everything looks great except the left grip which is not original to the gun. The two wooden bottom mags are WWI.
Very nice... I wish it were mine.

Ed, thank you very much!!

Mike, Just curious, what identifies the left grip as not being original? I obviously do not know the history of this pistol prior to when my grandfather took possession of it, but I know nothing has been replaced since then.

If that left grip is in-fact not original to the gun, maybe I should look for one that might play the part better... and doesn't have a piece of the lip missing that indexes with the frame? Not sure how likely it is I'd find anything but...

Nate,
The bottom of the grip should follow the edge of the frame. It overhangs the frame edge so much that it partially covers the stock lug. It might be a repro. You can find grips on Ebay and other auction sites such as Gunbroker or Auction Arms. First you should try to contact Tom Heller (Lugerdoc). Hopefully he will read this and respond.
