Byf 42

Guys

Did a search but wasnt able to find the info i was looking for.

I am looking at my BYF 42. On the top at the toggle where it is stamped byf, there appears a halo around the byf. Is this correct?

also it seems that this piece seems to be a slightly darker glossier black than the rest of the pistol. this also seems to be on the rounded part of the toggle or knuckle (sorry not completely familiar with all the terms).

another look and maybe the glossyiness matches the frame itself. not sure, its late and my eyes are tired.

Any help would be appreciated.

On the "halo" effect, I say that is a good thing to support originality... Here's an S/42 and P.38 serial that illustrates halos...

The discoloration on salt blued S/42.... that's not halo in my understanding. But I don't know what other people call it. Just discoloration, or there is another specific assigned name?

Salt blue does not hide underlaying steel hardness. That might be the reason for "discoloration".

Interesting, my 1938 S/42 toggle has similar discoloration around S/42 like the picture Bob in OH posted above. Of the limited pictures of 1939s they don't seem to have it. Wonder if this is more likely to occur in 38s like the plum coloring?

Also interested in S/42 stamp discoloration.

Here is another gun, picture #18. Please note that halo on rust blued gun limits to the stamp's neighborhood. But 'Discoloration' on salt blued S/42 is way bigger. What's could be the exact cause of this? Steel hardness?
