1914 luger help
i am new to this forum. inherited luger marked 1914 w/serial no. 3986 on barrel but also has 4518 i guess on the frame (above the trigger area--i am not firearm savvy.) has very fancy DWM (?) on top. stamped Germany in english on side. other markings german style sts? w/a stylized eagle/crown?
supposedly grandfather brought this to u.s. from mexico after 1910 revolution. what do i have? thanks, richard rivera. |
Welcome to the forum, Richard. If you can manage it, photos of your Luger would help a lot to identify it.

What we can tell from your description; DWM (manufacturer) made in 1914, and is a serial number of 4518i The barrel should have the same serial number; however, being marked "germany" shows it was exported to the USA, the after 1910 could be true, however, it would have to be after 1918 for exporting to the USA. Richard, Sounds like you have one of those advanced (for 19xx revolution) "assault pistols" smuggled into Mexico from the US, for use by the "terrorist". I'll bet that some politians were saying "there ought to be a law against this". TH

1914 luger help
thanks for the responses. I will try to get photos uploaded. richard rivera

Ed, the 3986 no. appears multiple times, the 4518 only once. which is the correct serial # and why? thanks, richard rivera

It is important to see photographs of both numbers. This will help determine if you have a mismatched pistol or one with a unit or stock number on it.
