A 1940 42 Rig Turns Up
Just watched a nice rig walk into the local shop. The Vet's widow wants an evaluation in order to sell. Here are the particulars and I will include photos later today.
Holster: Its all there no rips, tears or dry rot. Needs a little TLC Marked: PR&K Voegels Koln-Deutz 1936 Large eagle over Waa234 Gun: Really nice 85%+ original finish 1940 42 marked gun. All matching except mag Serial: 9553 F Has BROWN bakelite grips that look original and do not appear from the patina and verdigris to have been removed from the gun anytime recently. Would these be correct? Magazines; 1) Waa37 and Marked with a 122 on mag body Serial 2456 E 2) Serial 9801 W "+" and eagle over 63 on mag bottom, no marks on tube Has eagle marked takedown tool as well. Condition throughout appears un messed with and all original Would like help valueing as soon as I can post photos. Thanks |

Before anybody asks: The trigger is blued and not strawed. This is merely camera flash.

What is that leather thing attached to the lanyard loop---a real Luger lanyard? Nice.
|
Don't know if this is a correct lanyard. I'll let the board experts comment.
|
Correct as can be. Buy it as quickly as you can.

Hi George,
I can't presently afford this rig. What can this widow expect in the way of high fair retail for it? Thanks |
I will send you a private message.
|
George,
Thank you |
Kreighoff grips? Looks like.
|
George and Alanint, Please forgive my intrusion, however if I knew what fair retail was I might be able to swing it. What do I do? It would be nice if we could keep this in this community. Best to all,

Pits, The brown grips are WW2 KH replacements (have even seen these used as replacements on some WW1 lugers) and are worth upwards of $250 separately. Unfortunately, they are not the matching wood grips that originally came with this pistol, so detract about the same amount from the value of the pistol, had it had it's original grips. Judging from the die size of the serial on the E/63 mag, I would guess that it has been renumbered during it's service. The code 122 mag is period correct for this 1940/42. So the pistol @$1000+ (if matching other than the mag & grips), with unrelated good holster & spare mag @$250+, would incidate to me about a minimum value of around $1,250. TH

alanint,
IMO, the value is relevant to how fast she wants to sell it. If she wants to sell it today, I'll give her $1500 plus shipping. |

Did I miss something new concerning 1940/42 Mausers with the brown bakelight grips. I understood that some of these around the f through h serial numbers where originally equiped with the bakelite grips I believe there is information to that effect on this sight. I acquired a 1940/42 years ago under similar circumstances less than 300 numbers later than this one with the same grips. Would appreciate some of the experts weighing in on this |

You are correct; a few 1940 42 code Lugers were originally issued with brown Krieghoff style grips. (Also a few were issued with black plastic grips, however this concept seems very controversial). In my opinion, a 1940 42 code is more valuable with correct brown grips. Thank you, Jan
So it can be said that this is a rare and desirable Mauser variation? |
The sale of this gun is currently being negotiated, (by the first person to inquire). Thanks to all of you who showed an interest.

I understand this thread is ancient, however, I cannot figure out how the PM system works.
So I am replying here. Do you still have the magazine with S/N 2456? |
