Correct Holster for 1908 1st Issue

2 Attachment(s)
Hi! What is a close enough correct holster for my 1908 undated military DWM 1st issue Luger? It hates the Bulgarian holster it is trapped in!

Still's Central Powers Pistols shows one with a reworked Reichsrevolver holster on page 41.

The gun is unit marked, and I don't see getting a unit marked holster. I also don't recall seeing a holster marked 1908.

What is correct, and what can I get away with and still be close to correct?

I've posted this gun before to determine the unit markings. It has been beautifully restored, but it is still the crown of my collection so far.

Thanks!

Clark in Nashville

I can't answer your question, but PLEASE don't store the gun in the holster... all that restoration work will be for naught... leather holds moisture, and poor leather holds lots of moisture... Bulgarian holsters are not known for their quality...

Thanks, John!!!! Yes the Bulgarian Holster is a POS! Removing it now!

A Reichrevolver reworked into a Luger holster would be correct. Also a 1910 dated model should be acceptable, as the pistols and holsters were not always matched up by date.

My Reichrevolver rework holster is dated 1909.

Joe:

Thanks!!! I see a couple here for $250-$350 in decent shape.

I'll continue to look for a nice one!

Clark, I agree that a Reichsrevolver rework is probably your best choice, as the earliest standard PO8 dated holsters that I've seen, was 1909 and they are rare. TH

I would like to see photos of the back side of these two Luger holsters. Often the "changes" or repairs were on the back. The first Reichrevolver holster has a broken strap that connects to the buckel. The secornd holster has the buckel and strap inverted, never seen that configuration before.

All new mashine gun units (Maschinengewehr Kompagnien) got new holsters! So a altered Reichsrevolver holster is not correct for a first issue P08 with MG unit mark.

I just took some photos of 1909 dated holsters for MG units.
