"Forced Matched"

Hi all,

I'm not exactly a new collector but didn't know where else to put this.

Question is simple: exactly what means "forced matched". As in, "...the mag appears forced matched to the gun...". I know this means matching up serial numbers, but how does it work? How can you tell when something has been forced matched?

Thanks much.

Weasel -

A "forced match" part means that the part is not original to the weapon. However, it has had its old serial number marked out (often with the strike of a chisel tip) and the "matching" serial number placed on the replacement part. This can be done to show that the replacement part now belongs with the weapon, and functions properly with it. If done by an armory or as a field expedient, the old serial number was often simply left in place, but marked out.

When there is no attempt to conceal the fact that the part is a replacement (as evidenced by the striking out of the original number) it probably means no effort has been made to conceal a fraud.

However, if the old serial number has been professionally removed and the new number stamped on, it likely means that someone has done so in attempt to "boost" the value of the piece. In such a case this would be unethical because somone is trying to make the gun look like it still has "all matching" serially numbered parts.

To collectors this is important.

Hope this helps.

It means that part previusly belonging and numbered to a diferent gun is numbered again to match the gun the part is in at that time.
Usually the old number is stamped over with maybe X or ---

Sorry, english is not my first laguage but I think I got this right enough.
